library suck: please don't touch our old books :(

First time poster, etc.

I work in the Archives & Special Collections part of my university library, which is a pretty badass job most of the time. (I mean, come on! Getting paid to look at old books and stuff?)

Wow, I'm surprised they're that old. The girl you described sounds about 14!

I think it's what I get for choosing to go to school in what basically amounts to downtown LA. :\

It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen *___* We have so much cool shit in our library-like originals of Shakespeare's first four folios (1623-1640-something, I believe.)

Seriously...I'd love to just look at it!!
And Shakespeare originals? I want to visit your library. Ours kinda sucks. I love "old books", they make me happy.

*slaps her hands away* HANDS OFF.

But old books. OMG squee. I'd be like *bounces around it but too afraid to touch it but very gleeful and excited*

History kicks so much ass.

RIGHT? Ahhh it's the best job ;__; The first time I went down into our basement I about peed myself from excitement, looking at Shakespeare's folios and Dante's Divine Comedy and Commodore Perry's accounts of his trips to Japan and Civil War officers' chests and safdhlkjhkhasfd.

Basically, what you said: History kicks so much ass.

*twitch* I can just imagine if she HAD tried to turn the pages. The sudden ripping sound that would run down all booklovers spines everywhere, as people around her gasp in horror. And she just looks up and is like, "....Like, what? Omg, stop looking so, like, serious. It's just a book. Like, buy a new copy, yaknow?"

I felt that searing pain just reading your description of "the sudden ripping sound". I'm going to have nightmares now. Thanks so much.

*Twitch the second*

I'm sorry. I gave myself nightmares too. Stupid little twists, ripping up original Gutenberg's, and Shakespeare folios, some litle sod using an original copy of a masterwork to wrap fish. *shudder*

*SMH* Some people are just plain ol' inconsiderate.

Also, I envy your job, OP. I'd kill just to be in the same library as that copy of The Divine Comedy.

Okay I feel super internet-n00b right now but I can't for the life of me figure out what SMH means. :(

I love my job. I'm so lucky I got it, even-it was this total random stroke of chance because the other work-study girl couldn't make it back that semester, and I had happened to leave my contact information with the work-study supevisor.

SMH = Shaking My Head. It's ok, though - it took me quite a while to figure out myself ^_^;

Also, you really are lucky to have gotten a job that you enjoy. I guess some things are meant to be :)

Hee. In that case, do you know what IAWTC means? I've been seeing it all over the place and I have no clue what it stands for. Mwahaha-having taught me the meaning of one internet phrase, I have randomly decided that you will teach me the other one that confuses the heck out of me. Thanks!
