Some updates

I am still meaning to update about our trip, but I shouldn't let that stop me from posting about what's going on now. So - yesterday was Arthur's first day at the WSU preschool.* Everything went well - Steve dropped him off in the morning, stopped back in later to observe him through the secret mirror-window thing (one of the perks of sending the boy to a child development lab!) and saw he was doing fine, then picked him up at about 5pm. Apparently he was a little upset when Steve left, but adjusted quickly and played and ate and napped and so on without much trouble. *whew* He's in a 3-4 year old class of max. 16 kids, but as some only go part-time, there were maybe about 12 yesterday. There are two teachers for that group, and Arthur has already learned one of their names - Mr. Chris (they go by their first names with Mr/Miss/Mrs attached - the other is Mrs. Toria). He seems quite fond of Mr. Chris so far and talks about him a lot. He wouldn't tell me too much more about what they did, except that there was a Leapfrog book about the ABCs that was closed, and they read a book called "All Falling Down" about snow falling and rain falling. Steve observed them playing "Where is Thumbkin", and said that Arthur played the whole game with his middle fingers only, heh. Anyway - he'll be going there Monday-Thursday for this term. We would have maybe preferred to send him Tuesday-Friday, just because of Steve's schedule, but this will work all right and we can probably switch things around next term if necessary.

In other news, we bought a second car last night - a 2009 Matrix, blue. We should have it in a few days, assuming all goes well. It will be such a relief to have a car so that I'm not trapped here while Steve's away at work, and the hatchback should be handy for lugging things. We just have to get used to living in debt for a while -_-

And finally, we're going to Ann Arbor for a dinner party with the linguistics department on Sunday, so we've sought out a babysitter for Arthur. I just picked someone off kijiji, so I hope she's good ;) It'll be the first time he's stayed with someone who's not a friend, neighbour or family member - basically, not someone he already knows. I hope it's not a total disaster.

*He's very insistent about calling it 'preschool', not 'school' or 'playschool' or 'daycare'.
