Meme: My first born
I've been busy this week with my mom visiting, so haven't had much of a chance to update. And... I'm still not, really, but memes sort of count, right?
1. WAS YOUR FIRST PREGNANCY PLANNED? Exceedingly so.
2. WERE YOU MARRIED AT THE TIME? Yes, for five years.
3. WHAT WERE YOUR REACTIONS? Excitement, relief.
4. WAS ABORTION AN OPTION FOR YOU? Not at all.
5. HOW OLD WERE YOU? 26
6. HOW DID YOU FIND OUT YOU WERE PREGNANT? I had a pregnancy test at the doctor's office. They phoned with the results a day or two later.
7. WHO DID YOU TELL FIRST? Other than forthright, who was right there when the call came? My mother.
8. DID YOU WANT TO FIND OUT THE SEX? Yes, and we did at the 20-week ultrasound.
9. DUE DATE? June 29th
10. DID YOU HAVE MORNING SICKNESS? More like "sporadic all-day sickness". It was only particularly bad for the first four months or so. Worse than the vomiting was the utter exhaustion and later, the tailbone pain.
11. WHAT DID YOU CRAVE? St-Hubert's chicken sauce, and later, fruit popsicles. It was effin' hot that summer.
12. WHO IRRITATED YOU THE MOST? Nobody out of the ordinary. I suppose forthright had the most opportunity to irritate me, by virtue of proximity. Oh, and various people in internet pregnancy communities, if they count ;)
13. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CHILD'S SEX Male.
14. DID YOU WISH YOU HAD THE OPPOSITE SEX OF WHAT YOU WERE GETTING? I didn't have a preference either way.
15. HOW MANY POUNDS DID YOU GAIN THROUGHOUT THE PREGNANCY? About 20.
16. DID YOU HAVE A BABY SHOWER? Not as such.
17. WAS IT A SURPRISE OR DID YOU KNOW? Since I didn't have one, this is N/A.
18. DID YOU HAVE ANY COMPLICATIONS DURING YOUR PREGNANCY? Other than a bit of spotting near the beginning, nothing.
19. WHERE DID YOU GIVE BIRTH? At home. In my bedroom, to be precise.
20. HOW MANY HOURS WERE YOU IN LABOR? From the time my water broke, it was about 45 hours, but the first 30 hours or so of that were quite mild. Active labour was about 10 hours.
21. WHO DROVE YOU TO THE HOSPITAL? Nobody, I didn't go to one.
22. WHO WATCHED YOU GIVE BIRTH? forthright, and my midwives Sarah and Edan, and Sarah's student Christi.
23. WAS IT NATURAL OR C-SECTION? Natural.
24. DID YOU TAKE MEDICINE TO EASE THE PAIN? No.
27. HOW MUCH DID YOUR CHILD WEIGH? 9 lbs, 14 oz.
28. DID YOUR CHILD HAVE ANY COMPLICATIONS? No. His apgar scores were 9 and 10.
