Ive been working on a new painting and I've had my moments of artistic doubt. Things just wouldn't look right. A branch would be off, a tree would look too crooked. Then I'd get up and walk away.
I find it amazing how sometimes all you need to do is step back, literally or figuratively. Sometimes I just have to walk away and look at the painting from a distance and I can see how a certain branch should be painted or a spot of color that needs to be darkened. Other times, such as when I was leaving for work this afternoon, I wasn't even paying attention to the painting and when i glanced at it as I walked toward the door, I saw exactly where I needed to put something to fill out one particular tree that just hadn't been looking right to me. (It looks fantastic now, by the way, or at least I think so).
