... Ah. The position of a mistress. Not as foreign to me as the clothing and surroundings.

And those stories I told... were all part of mine so very dear to me ( Read more... )

I'm afraid we did not exchange names, my Lord.

What did he look like, then?
Don't tell me you didn't see him at all.

Ah... a very handsome man, I suppose. Fair-haired, almost a grayish silver? Spectacles...

I remember the hair, mostly. He seemed rather interested in mine.

That is one of the best ways to be.

... Thank you, for carrying me. I have a wheelchair, but... I seemed to have misplaced it.

There is no need to apologize for your actions or words. If any of us would of taken offense, i'm sure that it's ignorable.

I... feel as if they are warranted apologies.

It was... somewhat my nature still, if not distorted.

There wasn't much to take offense from. Anyone who has ever experienced such things would understand what... loyalty or to one person jealousy would do.

Was your affliction also due to the curse?

... I hope.

No, my lady. I have not been able to walk in... many years.

Er. I... must say, I hadn't... expected quite this sort of ruckus? We can of course change the colour to its birthright, no trouble at all... to be truthful, I had thought you would like it best this way and it has served its purpose.

I humbly apologize for whatever disservice, social or otherwise, towards which my actions may have unwillingly conspired. I beg of you, please make the allowance of a chance to amend.

... I would normally allow it, my lord.

But I've been told... that you are someone whom I should not associate with, for fear of injury, and the like.

Fear of --

-- has Cain been telling people these things again and --

Mmmm... mustn't be upset with him. He never does truly know what he's saying at times. But he means so very well.

-- I see. Well, then, we... I shall be very truthful, Madam: it pains me greatly to have to part with your company, but... I suspect it was my brother to have seeded any doubt, and... forgive me, but he is my brother, and I would not see him upset. Please, by all means, let us do as he wishes, whatever it is. If he takes to a melancholy again, I don't know... I don't know what I shall do. I couldn't bear it.

... Ah.

Well, then. ... Mm.

Do enjoy your birds, my lord, you've an eye for them.

Lady Lailis, I would like to thank you for the story you told me. I am sorry I did not reciprocate in kind as I promised I would, but it seems I spent most of the rest of the day trying to write a poem I might offer you in return.

...You may have it now, if you should like it. However, I must warn you: It seems to me entirely inappropriate when considered with a clear mind...the influence of the curse obviously eradicated much of my better judgment.

... Ah, Sir Ptolemy.

I would like to hear it, sir, since you spent so much time on it.

...Then you may have it, improper as it is. I apologize for its forwardness and its assumptive manner; it is not how I normally write or behave.

You have not danced so badly, my dear,
Trying to hold hands with the Beautiful One.

You have waltzed with great style,
My sweet, crushed angel,
To have ever neared God's heart at all.

Our Partner is notoriously difficult to follow,
And even His best musicians are not always easy
To hear.

So what if the music has stopped for a while.

So what
If the price of admission to the Divine
Is out of reach tonight.

So what, my dear,
If you do not have the ante to gamble for Real Love.

The mind and the body are famous
For holding the heart ransom,

But Hafiz knows the Beloved's eternal habits.

Have patience,

For He will not be able to resist your longing
For Long.

You have not danced so badly, my dear,
Trying to kiss the Beautiful One.

You have actually waltzed with tremendous style,
O my sweet,
O my sweet crushed angel.

It seems you have a gift for verse.
