NAME(S): Akito Sohma

BACKGROUND HISTORY:
Since this sucks, I will offer you this:
The best way to cover Akito's background is through her relationship with her family members. As the Head of the Sohma family, she interacts with all of them in very different ways. These interacts are what compose her history. Outside of her family, she has very few connections or desires.
Akira and Ren Sohma: While Akira was excited that his wife, Ren, was pregnant, he also knew that his wife was less than enthused. Upon finding out that Akito was a girl, Ren became angry. She threatened to kill Akito in her womb unless Akira agreed to raise their little girl as a boy. Akira, of course, agreed, but it was something that weighed on him. (Mainly because he felt himself drifting further apart from Ren. To him, Akito was a symbol of how special Ren and his love turned out to be (despite what the older Sohmas said). Therefore he wanted Ren to accept Akito because then she would accept the depth of their love.)
When Akito was finally born, Ren became even more jealous. She hated how much attention her baby girl was getting. In fact, she refused to even hold the baby - even when Akira insisted that she did.
Akira was a good father (until he told Akito that she was a means to an end, of course). Yet, sadly, Akito had to watch her father slip away at a very young age. Instead of comforting her, Ren became even more spiteful because Akito was the one at Akira's side when he passed away.
The older members of the Sohma family shut Ren up inside the main house, telling Akito that she was special and the Head of the Sohma family. They even gave her a box (holding her father's spirit supposedly) to reinforce that she was the one who controlled her family.
Unfortunately, it didn't take Akito long to look inside the box and realize that it was empty. But that will come into play later on in her history.
Shigure Sohma: After losing Akira, Akito sought comfort from the older children. She asked all of them if they liked her and would follow her no matter what. However, when she asked Shigure the same thing, she had a very different meaning in mind.
Shigure was Akito's first crush. Once he realized this, he promised her that she was the most important one to him. Since then, Akito's heart has belonged to him. Even if she acts to the contrary, the truth is that she wishes Shigure would stay at her side and only desire her.
Sadly, due to one desperate moment with Kureno, Akito nearly destroyed their love. Shigure got his revenge by sleeping with Ren, which hurt Akito deeply considering the woman had always scorned and hated her. Yet, Akito will always love and want Shigure. That is one of the only unchanging truths in the Sohma family.
Kureno Sohma: Kureno's Curse was the first to break. When he told Akito what had happened, something inside of her broke. Though she was only a child, she begged and pleaded until he agreed to stay.
Later on, her desperation to ensure he stayed evolved into sexual desire. They slept together and caused a catalyst that nearly undid Akito's relationship with Shigure. However, Akito knows how selfless and kind Kureno is and she uses that to her advantage. Kureno is her caged bird and she won't be letting him go any time soon.
Hatori Sohma: Without Hatori, Akito would already be dead. He treats her fever and ensures she has the medication and rest she needs. However, Akito has not been as kind to him. When Hatori fell in love with a woman named Kana Sohma, Akito waited in the shadows until Hatori asked if they could marry. Losing her temper, she injured Hatori's eye and drove Kana into a deep depression. Hatori ended up not marrying her and erasing her memory of the event.
Yuki Sohma: Yuki was the first child born to the Sohma family after Akito's own birth. In order to prove her mother wrong, Akito latched onto Yuki and tried to make him love her. When he started to drift apart from her and make other friends, she lost her temper and locked him into a small room. Once there, she inflicted mental and physical torture on him, ensuring that he is always afraid of her.
Kyo Sohma: Because he is the Cat, Kyo has incurred the worst of Akito's wrath (aside from Yuki). She will always look down on Kyo. Yet she doesn't seem overly concerned on keeping an eye on him. It seems the ones that should fear her the most are the ones that sit at her table for each New Years Banquet. Kyo is not apart of those who are invited, so she pays him little to no notice.
Her interactions with the other Zodiac members are not as notable as the ones I stated above (or their moment in the spotlight with Akito hasn't occurred in canon before the moment I am taking her for the game). However, Akito's history - and her life - revolves around her family. It has always been that way and only time will tell if she ever breaks that chain of dependence.
TIMELINE SUMMARY: Volume 19 - This volume depicts Akito's reaction to Hatsuharu after he turns his back on her. The reason why Hatsuharu does such is because of Akito's cruel actions towards Isuzu (i.e. locking her up and chopping off her hair). The reason why I chose this point is because Akito's childishness and spite comes through the strongest (for me) during this volume.
PERSONALITY: The first thing that should be known about Akito is that she is extremely prideful. She doesn't have patience for idiocy or people standing in her way. Her family comes first and foremost and anyone who tries to integrate themselves into these chosen few, she will rake over the coals before lighting their emotions on fire. In fact, even if they don't try to integrate into her family, she will not trust them to be around those she supposedly "loves". Additionally, she will not tolerate anyone in her household being happier (or more fulfilled) than herself. So it follows that anyone who causes this undesired (on her part) happiness has to be gotten rid of at any cost.
The second major part of Akito's personality is her vindictive nature. Not only will she get rid of the people trying to invade her family, but also the ideas that attempt to do the same thing. If one of her family members argues against her or defies her, she will wreak vengeance upon their head no matter what age they happen to be. Akito does not possess any softness for youth or any illnesses outside of her own. Life for her is a struggle, and those who dominate it: win.
Lastly, as if this weren't clear through her over-protectiveness and defensiveness, Akito is an emotional wreck. If the right wires are plucked through conversation or actions (i.e. one of her family member's being hurt or someone showing immense sympathy towards her), Akito will dissolve into tears. She is not too old to forget the pangs of being a child, but she is old enough to be bitter. She hates the lot life has given her and she rails against it with all of her might. In the end, she knows she won't win. But if people hate her then she won't feel guilty about dying, now will she?
SPECIAL ABILITIES: None. Unlike her family members, she lacks any ability to transform into one of the twelvethirteen Zodiac animals.
SAMPLES
THIRD PERSON: "If he doesn't care that I'm hurting, I don't care." Akito whispered angrily to Kureno, unwilling to talk about the problem further. It wasn't her fault that Hatsuharu was acting so cold. She had only been doing -
What?
Isuzu's face flashed briefly across her mind's eye, causing her stomach to twist uncomfortably. How she hated that girl. Her long, flowing hair and attractive features were enough to make her lose her temper. Was it any wonder that she had decided to cut off all of her hair?
And now she was being blamed for it?! How was that fair?!
Akito didn't understand this world. Everything had been going according to plan before now. But, now, she could see everything falling apart.
I won't acknowledge it. If I don't, it won't be a problem.
That was how she had dealt with things before. Ignorance truly was bliss. Yet, her heart hurt. Lately, she had so few positive things in her life. Even Shigure was pulling further and further away - not that that was unusual for him. He had always been like a ripple on the water. Akito knew better than to expect comfort from him.
"Hatori!" she raised her voice, glaring at the doorway. Faint footsteps resounded in the hallway before the physician looked inside.
"Yes, Akito?"
Taking a deep breath, pushing herself up off of the ground, Akito approached him.
"Give it to me. I want to sleep." she held out her hand obstinately.
A moment later, Hatori had placed her usual sleeping medicine in the palm of her hand. Taking it quickly, she moved to lay down on her bed. At least, for a little while, she could expect a small respite.
FIRST PERSON: Haru...
HARU!
[Akito's voice breaks awkwardly as she screams the boy's name over and over again. Finally, her voice gives out and the sound of stumbling is the only evidence that someone is still there.]
...what is this?
[Instead of sounding heart-broken, she now sounds aggravated. Grabbing the recording device, she turns it towards her face and reveals that has been crying. Those tears have stopped now, however. There are more pertinent things to think about than Hatsuharu leaving her, though the sting of his betrayal is still fresh.]
Where am I?
Hatori? Kureno? Answer me! [She is not a woman who is used to being ignored.]
I want to go home immediately.
In actuality, I believe Akito was born in 1978/1979 (which makes her Year of the Horse instead). However, I don't think the attributes of a Horse fit her in the least. Aside from the motto for Horses being "I Control" (which fits her very well), Akito embodies the persona of a negative and sheltered Snake. (Additionally, considering she is "god" and connected to the moon, a serpent fits the bill even better. What better to represent a Water Goddess than a Water Snake? Though it seems that her element is Fire. XD)
The qualities of the Snake are as follows:
"Positive Traits: Wise, profound, clever, creative, compassionate, discreet, highly-organized, honorable, deeply sensual; passionate.
Negative Traits: Judgmental; critical thinker, anxious, calculating, indifferent, intense, power driven."
At the point I have taken her in her canon, the negative traits of the Snake shine through. However, later on in her canon, she displays the positive traits of the Snake. Yet I will be ignoring those attributes for now until she has come to understand that she cannot stay cooped up in her self-made prison for the rest of her life. Once she understands that, her business savvy mind and true nature will finally make an appearance.
I hope this helps to clear up any/all confusion.
