History Video.

I have had a cold for the past few days. I know it is a cold as I did my lateral flow test and it was negative. From having a sore throat and the sneezes I have been left with a really annoying cough - it is a throat cough not a chesty one, but persistent. And, of course, if I cough anywhere in public I get some very worried looks, even though I ( Read more... )

I saw the daughter of an elderly neighbour, who visits her mother every day, sitting outside today coughing and it sounds as if she has the same thing as you. A cough that isn't Covid but won't go. She said everyone was looking at her on the tram so she got off before she was thrown off!

Hope you both feel better soon.

It is one of those annoying coughs - otherwise I am more or less over it now - but once I start to cough it might last 30 seconds or more - which is definitely enough to make other people very wary.

S2C is a few days behind me, so feeling over the worst by now - but beginning to cough!

There seem to be a lot of lurgies about this year, worse because there were so few last year. I hope you both recover swiftly.

I enjoyed the history lesson. It's not something I knew about. Bloody Scots, just as colonialist as the English!

I guess it is only to be expected - and it is not as bad a some of the current crop of coughs and sneezes doing the rounds here . At the NYKs' school (yes - school in the singular - both at secondary school now!) a lot of the children under 15 are, or have been, off with covid (them included) - but of the 26 teachers off before half term about 1/2 were actually not because they were covid positive, but because they had a nasty chest infection and were on antibiotics and feeling grotty.

I have had refreshers on the last of the Viking Kings, and the Scottish invasion, when D-d was covering that period with the Labyrinth group and then when I took NYK2 and her friend to the House of Mannannan last summer and they relished the tales of all the family members murdering each other!

Thank you - ginger tea does help - especially when laced with honey.

Oh dear, I hope you're feeling better soon! *sends fresh hot ginger tea*
I'm also just over a cold (just a badly running nose but did test anyway), and it's been a bit annoying as you're not supposed to go anywhere with any symptoms of a cold, despite masks being required everywhere in public, too; and I missed out on all the small bits of social life I'd recently regained (like choir practice, visiting with friends, and going to the cinema). But as I much prefer to not being exposed to anyobdy having a cold myself, at least not without a mask, it was allright. I just hope that we'll keep the social pressure for people to mask up when they have cold symptoms, but by what I'm already hearing from everywhere doesn't give me much hope. *sigh*
Thanks for sharing the video! That was most interesting, and I really love the style. Particularly interesting also insofar as I started to watch Vikings again a few days ago. I never made it beyond season 2 before and have just picked up there again.

Thank you - ginger tea does help - especially when laced with honey. We have no rules against going out with symptoms of a cold - but as the tests kits are freely available most people do check that it is just a cold, to be on the safe side. And there is the 'social stigma' effect if you cough badly in public, whether wearing a mask or not!

Our Viking history is part of our culture, really, from place names to having been at school with members of a family who had a ship burial on their farm. I loved the style of this video, too - factual and well presented!
