The Plague is back...

Jan 05, 2021 20:02

In the past few days there have been a small number of covid-19 cases detected on the island - and whilst 3 were easily accounted for, 6 new ones are not - they are not people who have been off-island and are in quarantine, nor are they known contacts of the person who tested positive 3 days after completing their 14 days quarantine. So they are ( Read more... )

much better 3 weeks now than 3 months in a couple of weeks time.

So true, but what a shame it's necessary. :(

I know. But we will be fine - as far as we know we have not been anywhere where one of the current cases has been, although I suppose we can only be sure of that if we are still well at the end of the three weeks.

The only difficult thing is the effect it will have on the house move. If only there had been a few more days so they were in the new one.

Oh - that’s worrying - I wonder how it came into the island! What a shame the move will be delayed - I imagine they are living amongst boxes ...

We had one person who had stuck to all the rules, did their 14 days in quarantine, and then became ill a few days later - so my guess is that this may well be someone else who was positive after their quarantine, but was never tested to see, as they had done the 14 days and remained asymptomatically.

I have no idea what is going to happen about them moving - but they must feel a bit as if the world is against them - the first lockdown came into place 2 days before the original wedding date and now this one is due to officially start 2 days before they move house :(

Oh V, I'm really sorry. Your island has been giving me hope. But I'm extremely glad your government are acting fast and sensibly. Unlike some I could mention, sigh. Three weeks is definitely worth it - I hope that does the trick and at least it's very much not going-out weather.

We knew it was likely to happen, but had begun to feel that perhaps we had avoided it as we looked at the first people here being vaccinated.

There is a sense that the decision is the right one; strict lockdown rather than just reintroducing a few measures at a time, and also that we did this before and it worked, and so with any luck there will be high compliance and we will have nipped it in the bud.

Oh heavens, first their wedding and now the move! Well, at least they know from the late wedding that it all works out in the end. Must be so frustrating though.

I am so sorry the virus has come back, I often quote your island as an example of how things should be done. Still, it only takes one, I know. We're back in a (for us) medium lockdown with no booze and a heavy curfew. It seems to be keeping the hospitals stable, which is the main point, but eh, you get tired of this after months floating through various levels.

(using a Christmas icon because it is still Christmas up till Twelfth Night :D)

We had a long conversation on the phone after I posted and she was saying that a couple of her colleagues at work asked her to give them plenty of warning before she plans any more major life changes :)

They were going to check with their advocate this morning about the move - last time, it seems, some moves went ahead, but I think they might have been people who could then move everything themselves. On the whole the two of them seemed fairly upbeat about it.

I think, at least yesterday as there was a sudden rumour that this would be the outcome of the government meeting, people still feel we are doing things the right way and will get back to normal again quite quickly. It might well be that we can still be seen as an example of doing it right! We hope so.

I am so sorry.

Hopefully your government (and people) being more cooperative/willing to listen to science than ours will make your lockdown effective so you don't end up like the rest of us.

We knew it might eventually happen - but hoped it wouldn't.

I was in the post office yesterday where I first hear that this might well be about to happen. The general opinion there, and in the local online community since, seem to be that this is a good decision, we did it in April and May and it worked. And so I think the compliance level should be high.

The vaccination programme has already started with care homes and nursing homes and will continue, and it seems as if people welcome it and so we also hope this will be our last lockdown.
