T'was a week before Christmas...

I am just about managing to post each day this month. This morning I was visiting for coffee and mince-pies... the minister was having 'open house' all day. Her Christmas tree is beautiful, I wish I'd thought to take a picture. There were about half a dozen of us there over the morning - I expect there would have been similar numbers through the ( Read more... )

You sound so organised! Do you mean you'll put the NYK's Christmas gifts under the tree at church? I'm a bit confused...

I love the idea of the Goody Bags.

I am sort of organised:)

Sorry, yes, I didn't write that bit very clearly. The children at church all get a present left for them under the tree there - as the Children's Elder it is part of my role to buy them.

I always feel as if, once we have had the church nativity, I can finally concentrate properly on the home stuff. Tomorrow afternoon I will go into the spare room and put things into piles on a bed, one for each person, and make sure everyone has about the same amount!

The idea of goody bags began when I was our sole earner and S2C stayed home with D-d. I could make presents more cheaply than buy them. Then D-d began to help, making truffles and cutting out gingerbread men, and it became a tradition I have kept going ever since.

I always worry that I will forget something - which reminds me; I always put chocolate money into the shiny boxes that are the king's gifts - I have the coins but it might be a good idea to go and take them out of the cupboard in the kitchen and put them where I can see them :) (The children learn, from generation to generation, to open the boxes at the end of the service to find their treat!)

Church stuff plus home stuff would turn me into a hysterical mass. But this year I did goody bags for two of our neighbours who will have to celebrate Christmas alone, because their relatives from neighbouring countries did not come for a visit because of imminent quarantine.

It has been part of my life for such a long time, although, in the past there would have been rehearsals but also others who helped. But as the number of children has gone down so it has been simplified and have a sort of check-list to try not to miss anything important :)

I really do enjoy baking and making the edible gifts - I'm sure your neighbours will appreciate the ones from you.

Oh my, so much work, but such a joyful time of the year, it's only right to celebrate. I wonder who will end up playing what character in your Nativity this year. You've had some lovely kids in the past who stepped into their roles. I hope you take some photos this year again. I always get a kick out of seeing the kids.

I mainly enjoy it all, but I do wonder how I managed to do it all whilst I was working.

I know so far NYK2 wants to be an angel (having found a set of wings I usually keep hidden) her friend B wants (as usual!!) to carry the star, and Charlie is bringing his shepherd's costume. Nobody has expressed any desire to be Mary or Joseph yet, so it will be a surprise to all of us :)

As long as I don't forget anything major* it will be fine :)

*I think of major being the script, the Powerpoint, and knowing where 'the baby' is - smaller people might think of major as being the presents for under the tree and the chocolate coins for the kings' gift boxes :)
