Cleaning Day.

We have a sort of rhythm now - and Wednesday is cleaning day. I cleaned the kitchen and utility room, although I still need to do the fridge, I tidied up a bit in the living room to make it easier for S2C to hoover the floor, and the bins are all emptied ready for the wheely bin to go out last thing tonight.

And aren't the refuse collectors real heroes! Them and our postmen and the milkman who delivers regularly. We are very fortunate really.

Tomorrow is shopping day. I kind of want to go to M&S for the food, but I know how the system works at Shoprite, so I think a trip to M&S will be a treat to self when we begin to have some of the restrictions lifted.

News about the covid-19 on the island - this is as much for my own record, and in case it stresses anyone it is under a cut; we have tested over 2.5% of the population at present, there have been 256 confirmed cases. Four people have now died as a result of Covid-19. 239 patients have been instructed to self isolate, 13 are being treated at the hospital. 151 people are now presumed recovered.

I remember reading that one test of how well things were going was the length of time it took for the number of cases to double - 3 days was scarily bad, at one point NY was at 2 days - well ours was at 6 days but currently it is actually 10 days - so we are managing it as well as possible.

We are only permitted to leave our houses for an hour of exercise, within our own area, or for food or medical shopping. If you are a known contact of someone positive you will be given an appointment for the drive-thru testing centre or someone will come to your home. You must remain in quarantine until you have the all-clear. At least 2 people have been imprisoned for breaking this.

The government has taken over the running of one of the island's 7 nursing homes as it was deemed not to be keeping residents and staff in a safe environment. (Can't say I was surprised at which one, to be honest)

Having read a few of the articles petzipellepingo posts, and comments on Facebook, I asked myself do people here worry about our civil-rights?

No. Why should we? We are the ones who elect the government and we trust that once there is no need for these measures they will lift them at a pace that will work. And that slow doubling rate seems to show the measures are working - thank God.

In the meantime I thought I would show you why I can't put the car in the garage...
