That cake is beyond amazing! And so is the rest of your Christmas table.
Having the house for yourself can be nice sometimes. I love Mum to pieces and hope to have her around for many years yet, but it was wondrously peaceful this morning to have an entire hour for myself while she was in church (*). I took her there, as she can't really go out on her own any longer, even though the church is at the end of our (very short) street. Then I returned home and did - nothing special, really. Cut out some parts for the Russian dolls that are due on February 1, tried to pack away the paraphernalia for felt work as I'll be working with paper next, and generally just enjoyed the fact that I could do so at my own leisure, without being interrupted by some small request at the most unfitting moment. It is the small things that are a bit too much sometimes.
We ate the leftovers from yesterday - over here Christmas Eve is THE big day - took some cookies to the neighbours (they also brought us some) and generally had an uneventful day - the way I like it!
(*) I didn't stay with her as I really don't like the current priest and his ways. I won't go to a church where girls aren't treated as equals to the boys. So I take Mum there, drop her and fetch her after Mass. The Creator and I have secularized our relationship, without the clergy interfering. Well, I have. My Maker endures tolerantly. *g*
I would be out of that church with you. Our current minister is a woman - but there have been women ministers in our tradition for over 100 years so it is seen as no big thing.
The cake turned out well - we enjoy decorating it every year. I remember doing it with my mother as a child and the tradition has just continued. I had seen a picture of a Santa done as a triangle - I showed it to my daughter and she did her own version and decided to add the snowflakes.
