I don't believe I need to remind my students of their assignments-- after all I have given you more than enough time to have found your exam piece and practice it! Because to fully understand music, there is more to it than performing the composition perfectly! There is history to everything and to fully understand the depth that is a piece, you need to know the story behind each and everyone one of them!

It isn't much when you think about it - my focus will of course be on your performance but I want to see just how much each and everyone of you truly grasp what it means to be a musician!

Then would it not be wise to focus more on the relationship between melody and pitch? Or describing the differences in scales? Topics concerning music itself, rather than all sordid details of Tchaikovsky's love life.

Ah, but it is because of those little details behind the composer that so man of the greatest compositions ever created came to be! The assignment is to broaden your views beyond the literal fundamentals of musical composition!
