Where are you when we need you?

I have not posted in... crap, over a year.  A year because I'm just not the journaling type.  I'll keep it up for a while and then I'll loose interest.  It's the way I am.  But what's happened recently had just...boggled my mind.  Many a times my mind has been boggled by the stupidity of people, the arrogance of humanity, the selfishness, etc.  Of ( Read more... )

I'm glad to see you post again!

Are you sitting down because I'm getting ready to say something that might put you in shock... ;)

I agree with you concerning President Bush's response time. This is retarded! They are just now sending the National Guard??? They still won't arrive for another few days and there is absolutely NO excuse for the delay. FEMA needs to be wiped clean and all new staff hired. I am furious and appalled at the delay. *fumes*
The only thing that I can say in defense of President Bush is that the news reported today that he is furious about the delays and said he was going to get it done NOW. I think that he more than likely was not aware of what FEMA was doing and had depended on them to do their job. But shit rolls uphill on this and President Bush is going to be blamed - which he should be. He should have been on top of this BEFORE Katrina hit.

I just saw President Bush on the news... it was very apparent that he was royally pissed off. I won't be surprised if some heads are going to roll.

And I don't know if that's a "I look really stupid" kind of pissed too. I have no doubt that once he went physically down there, he got a real look at what was happening and it really, really hit him. But part of his reaction I think is him eating crow. Why in God's name would he ever expect someone else to clean this up? Why would he ever think it's okay to have a half-hearted interest in his own country just because FEMA is supposed to take care of it? *boggles* I mean, it's like him expecting the military to take care of Iraq all by themselves without his input. Then he'd go there and be all "Oh holy crap, why didn't anyone call me??"
This is from their site:

In 2001, President George W. Bush appointed Joe M. Allbaugh as the director of FEMA. Within months, the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11th focused the agency on issues of national preparedness and homeland security, and tested the agency in unprecedented ways. The agency coordinated its activities with the newly formed Office of Homeland Security, and FEMA's Office of ( ... )

One of the "excuses" they have for the lack of action on the part of FEMA is that these people were hired because of their expertise in terrorism and apparently they lack in the skills of national weather type disasters. I can see how this would happen, but it doesn't take Einstein to figure out what needs to be done in this case.

Part of being a good administrator is allowing those whom you have entrusted in a position to do their jobs without interference (unless necessary). I would say that the delays of National Guard arriving is definitely necessary.

I wish that I could totally defend President Bush on this issue, but I can't.
