There was an old hummingbird feeder in the barn that looked useful after a good cleaning. I made up sugar water (1:4 by volume) and put out the feeder on the side of the house. There are only a couple of birds around, at least that I can make out so I wasn't expecting much. Still, I hadn't seen any and thought perhaps I had boiled off too much ( Read more... )

One of the girls, Vio, found a baby bird on the ground underneath a tree. We had an old nestin a tree so Patricia put the bird into that layered with paper and gave it some water through a syringe.
