Actually, drunken elephants are terrifying

This weekend's movie slot was blown on Wet Elephants. Which Mr Dee really wanted to see. What the fuck has marriage done to us? Anyway, he bought me a little tub of Trampoline's orange-and-poppyseed gelati, which partly made up for it. AND this week's Date Night (cheap-arse Tuesday) can't happen due to body corporate meeting, but at least there'll be beer. I better not miss out on anything important, like Source Code, or Pirates, or X-Men, or there will be WORDS, yo.

No, sorry, I'm not even reviewing Wet Elephants. It wasn't bad enough to tear apart, it was just... mediocre. I find the whole circus-as-world-condensed setting almost as cheap and unimaginative as the ringleader-as-dictatorial-oppressor character. I just feel like there were no interesting or novel or truly inspiring character or narrative decisions made in that story. I kept hoping it would do something interesting - have Marlena remain in love and committed to her husband, for instance; or actually really give some depth to August's bipolarity, some truly engaging zing to his up days to provide internal conflict. I was just sort of bored.
