Well, he is the "Teen Wolf", there is no doubt about that, so of course you are right in that sense. But he's also the most uninteresting character on the show. Nice enough, but bland. And he doesn't really forward any of the plot strands, he just reacts.

Hmmm.

Okay, you make a good case and I can see how you'd read him that way.

That said, I'm still find the role lacking for the main character, because a) I think they've overdone Scott's indecisiveness, and and Allison and Stiles are going on much more interesting coming of age journeys, and b) while I love the theme of the group being stronger than the individual (it's very feminist), I really really loathe the idea that the solo hero has to save the day by bringing the pack together. A solo hero fundamentally undermines the strength-in-group theme, just to buy into the masculine paradigm of heroism. And yes, I know that's a core feature of these kinds of shows, even if they are queer friendly. But just YUCK times a bazillion. I'm so over it. I can't take that kind of heroism seriously ( ... )

I fully approve of the new and improved werefolf that is de-haired for a more aesthetically pleasing experience. Derek is also the least facially animated werewolf ever, but luckly he has not much need to emote and gets by perfectly well with starring, growling and distracting the enemy with his torso. All of which is fine by me...
