Makeup for Wedding Tea Ceremony??

Mar 28, 2011 19:30

My brother is getting married next weekend, and I'm at a loss for what to do in terms of makeup for the tea ceremony! A quick runthrough of what's going to happen-

Friday, April 8th: We're having the traditional Vietnamese wedding ceremony. This involves going to the bride's house, bringing gifts, and then bringing her back to our house for a small ceremony involving tea and an ancestral shrine. To be completely honest, I'm not sure what the specifics are in terms of the tea ceremony. I just know that I'm going to wear an ao dai.

Saturday, April 9th: Around noon I will be heading over to the hotel where my brother's wife-to-be will be along with some of her other bridesmaids. Yes, I'm going to be a bridesmaid! We will get our hair and makeup done by a woman my brother's fiancee hired, and just get ready in general. I absolutely love my bridesmaid dress, btw. Then we'll be taking photos before the church wedding. That evening, there will be a wedding reception at the local Town & Country Club, where I will be eating steak and running around in yet another traditional Vietnamese ao dai.

So my hair and makeup will be taken care of for Saturday, but I'm not sure what to do on Friday. Shame on me, but I don't own a real liquid foundation that I can use for flawless coverage. My entire makeup look is built around looking natural and dewy. I could always just layer on my mineral foundation powder over my BB cream, but I'm worried about not photographing well. How vain of me! It's just that nearly every product I use on my face has an SPF--including my moisturizer, concealer, mineral foundation powder, and BB cream.

I might make up a list of cosmetics to purchase this week. I'm sure that I can steal some of my mom's Dior foundation, but it would be nice to have something for myself that I know won't break me out. So my list might be a little ridiculous right now, and I'll need to cut down on it, because it would just be a waste for me to have this much makeup sitting around, since I wouldn't use it all that often.

1. *Revlon Colorstay Makeup for Oily/Combination Skin in Buff >> Seems to be the holy grail of drugstore foundations, but a lot of reviewers say that it made them break out. Still, I'm looking for something that will go the distance. If it doesn't work out, I'll probably give it to my best friend, Danielle.
2. Neutrogena SkinClearing Liquid Makeup in Classic Ivory >> I'll have to order this one online if I decide to get it, but I hear it's good for acne-prone skin. It has salicylic acid, so it definitely won't make me break out.
3. Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup in Classic Ivory >> I really like the idea of this, but I'm worried about it not working with my combination/oily skin and possibly breaking me out.
4. CoverGirl Natureluxe Silk Foundation in Aspen 320 >> I still really like this one... I might scrap the Neutrogena foundations entirely just for this.
5. Physicians Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Powder Foundation in Light or Medium >> This would be an everyday foundation powder for me, but I'm a little irritated by the fact that I have no idea which shade I should go for. That's probably the only thing stopping me from buying this.
6. Physicians Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Tinted Moisturizer in... I don't know. I'm afraid of going too light or too dark with this, but I've wanted to get this for a while.
7. Physicians Formula Powder Palette Mineral Glow Pearls in Translucent Pearl and Bronze Pearl >> You should know that I love using things that will make my skin glow. This is no exception.
8. *L'Oreal Paris Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner in Carbon Black
9. *Maybelline Full N Soft Waterproof Mascara in Very Black >> I own the non-waterproof version of this in brown/black and I love it. I've heard only good things about the waterproof formula though.
10. Physicians Formula Baked Collection Wet/Dry Eyeshadow in Baked Butter, Baked Sands, and Baked Smokes >> I mostly want the Baked Smokes trio, because it would be perfect for a nice smokey eye.
11. *Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture for Combination Skin >> This has no SPF, which is a big deal for me because my moisturizers have ALWAYS had at least SPF 30.
12. *Clean & Clear Oil-Free Dual Action Moisturizer >> Has no SPF and also contains salicylic acid to help treat and prevent blemishes.

This is a really long list that I'm working on cutting down. The starred (*) items are the ones that have top priority right now. I need a good waterproof mascara, I have no good liquid eyeliner, and obviously, I need foundation. I'm not sure which moisturizer to go with though. The Clean & Clear definitely won't break me out, but I already use a lot of products to combat acne. Hmm...

If you've made it this far through reading this entry, you can probably tell that I love Neutrogena, and I'm really into foundations, powders, and tinted moisturizers. I'm really big on perfecting my complexion. I feel like when I'm doing makeup, that's the one thing I want to fake--perfect skin.

Thoughts? Please let me know! I'm freaking out a little bit right now.

Love,
