August 21 ~ Sunday ~ Coffee Shop

Kiyokata had been quite surprised, yet deeply pleased when he heard that Shuichi had gotten a job. He had expected the boy to return to the apartment last Saturday after an unsuccessful day of job hunting; in which, the whole day he actually spent wandering around town, cursing the names of those who wanted him to get the job. Kiyokata had been sure that he would have had to accompanied Shuichi the very next day and force him to try for a job at several different places.

Now it had a whole week since Shuichi had the job at the Coffee Shop and Shuichi hadn't complained one bit to him. Kiyokata had been so proud of the boy that he even mentioned it in the most recent report letter to Shuichi's parents. Their response held it's own piece of shock.

When Shuichi entered the kitchen of the apartment on his way out to go to work, Kiyokata had handed the letter he had received in response. Shuichi, whom had been running late, left with the paper.

It wasn't until now that he remembered the letter. He was in the process of serving a middle-aged woman when the images of the letter came to mind. He handed the cup over to the lady quickly and went to retrieve the letter. He opened the letter easily, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose in order to see the writing.

He almost forgot how to breathe when he read it. His eyes scanned it, once, twice, and then a third time. His parents were overjoyed with him working. In fact, his father planned on taking a trip to the coffee shop this coming Saturday (he had been informed by Kiyokata that Shuichi would be working then).

Shuichi stared at the letter. Could it be true? He could never imagine his father taking a trip all the way to that place just to see his son at work. It was very unlike him to care what Shuichi was up to at all. There had to be another reason to it. But what?

Shuichi was too busy fretting over the letter to take care of the new customer who had arrived at the counter. He didn't even notice them arrive before him.
