The Merlin Kitteh

Urgh, bad headache this morning. Went to bed with it starting, and don't think it was helped by having to chase Mog from my pillow (where she sleeps every night without fail; Toby sleeps at our feet like the dog-cat he is, and Merlin either sleeps on a blanket in the living room or on the chair in the bedroom as long as clothes are arranged on top of it) at 6.30 when I awoke to the sound of her starting to barf. Thankfully got her out onto the wooden floors before anything happened.

On the topic of cats, Merlin is going through another wee bout of eating her fur. The antibiotic and steroids shots she got at the start of this little episode don't seemed to have worked at all. We brought her up to the vet again, and she had another full round of test done, but they were completely clean. She is a runt, but other than that the vet said she has a really healthy coat (apart from the baldness), and is healthy otherwise, so she thinks it may simply be a psychological habit due to her life before we took her in. She lived the first few years of her life in a house where she wasn't looked after properly and was locked away most of the day, and it wasn't the most cleanly of places either. The vet thinks maybe she has a problem with her own scent deriving from that. So there isn't much they can do for her. We just need to make sure the litter and house is as clean as possible in hopes we can break her habit. Been giving her wipe downs with anti-bacterial wipes design for cats as well. Just worry that those, or the nasty tasting scents you can get to put on pets with the same problem could make it worse as her problem may be scent related.

But then, all that would happen is she'll get a bit balder if it doesn't work. It's not causing her discomfort and just makes her look a little scruffy. She's always cuddly, happy, and runs around like a crazy one chasing shadows despite being almost 9 1/2. Completely different from the cat we rescued who just hissed at everyone, and hid for the first week or more when we took her in. Even after ages of having her, she used to just let us pet her on her own terms, and desperately hated being lifted or held, but now she will fall asleep on my shoulder.

She's currently sitting cuddled in my lap, unusual for this time of day as I don't really see her until lunch time; she usually sleeps all morning. Ah, I love the wee kitten (I can't help calling her that despite her age as she is the size of a six month old). Just hope we can correct the balding problem.

Right, headache, please go away. I have a lot of work to clear off today.
