Bugger it. Why are more and more manga being released in the bigger format (height of 21cm+ rather than the normal 19cm or so)? Yes, a difference of two centimeters is causing me grief :D I have my manga and anime bookshelf done in a way where I could fit as many shelves as possible. This means two rows at the top for anime DVDs (though a few nicer box sets sit on top as it looks good), and then six rows for manga. The top manga shelf can fix anything of 26.5cm and below, whereas the rest could maybe fit something 20cm tall. A lot of the new manga coming out, especially josei and seinen, are 21cm, which means they can only sit on the top manga shelf. At the moment it has a little more room in it, but I was already a little worried about how quickly it's getting filled compared to the other shelves.

Each of the shelves can fit up to 36 normal sized manga. As you can see I've well spaced them all out so it's nice and easy to add new volumes. At last count, there were about 590 manga, not including the phone books or art books. In terms of anime, over 55 complete seasons, and over 50 movies/OAVs.
First season of Full Metal Alchemist is currently on-loan
Clover goes in here, but is currently on-loan

Today I wanted to do a quick check to see how big the new omnibus editions of Rurouni Kenshin are, as I have the first five old single volumes of it, always enjoyed it, but when they began releasing it a volume a month, it was a little much for me to continue collecting while buying other series (this was back in uni when, after bills and rent, I barely had any money left). But they are in the larger format, and at seven volumes containing three normal volumes each ... Well, I'd have little room for anything else in my larger shelf. And I've got half a dozen continuing series on the shelf already, which includes the first 10 volumes of 20th Century Boys, a series of 22 volumes >_< And then there are the Dark Horse re-releases of some of CLAMPs stuff, which, after getting Clover, I'm really lusting over. I know at some point I'll have to move the shelves to create a second taller shelf, but that will mean one of the shelves that perfectly fits normal sized manga will have to shrink. I do have plenty of room for the normal volumes, but if I removed one whole row, then I'd be very limited. Gah.
Yeah, I know. I have OCD when it comes to organising bookshelves. Working in the school library in Sixth Form was fun for that very reason :D And when it comes to the anime and manga collection, I'm really bad.
