you know that some of the people on the old Iron Chef were celebs. Some were actresses and actors of Japanese movies and such. There were also a few sports figures.

Yeah, but like I said, it's a different society over there. It's not as blatantly superficial as it is in the US. They tend to be rooted to their culture... and food is part of their culture.
