Allright, now that it's settled in, I've some ideas for my own show.
Do you remember the show "The Dating Game" from the '60's and '70's?
Ok then, we take about 8-10 persons from foodservice background with a minimum of 5 years experience. No one holding a management position need apply. If you're already in management then you've made your choice concerning your future in the industry.
So once we have this panel of "hungry" individuals, we select our Jury. I'm rather fond of the way they do it on the original Iron Chef, a panel of socialites, not celebrities. Of course culture is different in Japan so good luck finding a well balanced high-profile individual in America that's not a superficial celebrity.
The show format follows thus: First half of the season consists of the "Dating Game" format... would-be chefs are concealed behind a "curtain" while the panel interviews them and their food. At the end of the show, one is chosen. This continues on a bracket system until a single winner is selected. This winner then goes on to open his/her own restaraunt.
The 'restaraunt opening' phase of the season follows: The selected winner is released with a "nest egg" to open a restaraunt. This grant is not nearly enough to open a business entirely... merely a kickstart. It is now up to this individual to obtain further backing and financing... scout and find a location, produce a menu, hire employees, plan and stock inventory, and oh... say... 6 months to show a profit after opening the doors... not necessarily establish a successful business, just show an efficient profit after 6 months.
This is not an inclusive model, but it is an alternative idea that is more "real" than "reality" and, I believe, justifies my previous rant. So that I am not just complaining and bemoaning society but also offering a solution which may be just as, if not more entertaining.
