It's the year 2914 when they saw each other again.
Dean was on his way out of the building with a box of everything he'd accumulated in his office when it happened. He'd heard the head of security was to arrive today so Dean needed to clear out of his office, thank you very much. Rumor had it that the youngest son of the Malakhim family finally finished his tour from the air force, and looking for a job. And who'd make a better head of security than an ex-military brat?
They were such dicks. He'd thought his job was secure, being practically at the top of the food chain in the corporate ladder. Apparently not.
Mind busy bitching or not, his body reacted on instinct and stepped aside when this guy walked past him. He was flanked by the familiar faces of Uriel, operations director, and Anna, IT director. It was his job, once upon a time, to know the faces of the people in this entire building and this one was new. That was enough of a clue as to who this stranger was.
So this was the new guy. Dean decided to pay more attention and tracked their movement with his eyes. From the back, the guy looked rumpled complete with bed-head hair. The man didn't even look threatening. Dean could probably take him down in a fist fight, he had no doubt.
The longer he stared, the more irritated he was. And he couldn't really let this whole thing settle without a last word in. So he dropped his box on the ground and braced himself for a confrontation when he started his way towards the trio.
He's already fired and he wouldn't be back in this damned building after today anyway. He had nothing to lose. He'd at least give this guy a fist in the face for goodbye.
When Dean grabbed one arm to force the guy to turn towards him, fist already raised and ready, everything suddenly slammed in all the places he didn't know existed in his mind. There were things he remembered. Things he dreamed about.
Things he didn't understand.
"Cas..."
Castiel's brow furrowed in confusion, his eyes searching but there was no recognition there.
"Do I know you?"
Dean loosened his grip but didn't let go, his hand sliding down to hold on to a warm wrist. Anna moved to one side, sliding her hand around the crook of Cas' elbow, but Dean only tightened his hold.
Human. They were all human, now.
"Do you believe in second chances?"
Cas frowned at him, probably wondering who this crazy guy was. Dean would be amused but he wanted to know why. Why was he the only one who remembered? Why were they all human?
When it was obvious that Dean would cause a scene if that's what it took, Cas finally humored him, much to the blatant annoyance of Uriel. Anna seemed content enough to just hold Cas down, as if that was necessary.
"Do you?"
Lips twitching, Dean tried to contain the grin. "I do now."
