Corona Chronicles: Reading

I've been listening to audiobooks and reading. Here's a roundup.

The Complete Sherlock Holmes read by Stephen Fry. What a great ride! This is an excellent audiobook to listen to while I'm puttering. Stephen of course does all of the voices perfectly. I'd forgotten how much enjoyable the stories are. Audiofile Magazine said: "Fry's Holmes is crisp and high-handed, his Watson enthusiastic and bemused, and the rest of the narration colorful without being mannered. Have fun."

Disloyal by Michael Cohen read by Robert Petkoff. This is fascinating! It may seem odd to be listening to this while watching America crashing and burning. But seeing how Trump operates from the inside is strangely comforting. What a world class shit!! It details all of Trump's tricks and showmanship. Cohen is straightforward about his own motives and shitty behavior.

The Life Of Oscar Wilde by Hesketh Pearson. Published in 1946, the author was able to interview many of the actual participants in Wilde's life. Including Herbert Beerbohm Tree, Robert Ross and Lord Alfred Douglas. The author, a former actor, was interested in Wilde for decades. The book is written with glowing admiration and attention to detail. It's old fashioned and coy about homosexuality but it was 1946. I'd owned a copy of this book many years ago so I was delighted to find it again. It's highly comprehensive.

I'm also watching one old movie after another. As I type this, "The Bad At The Beautiful" with Kirk Douglas and Lana Turner, directed by Vincent Minnelli is on. It's high melodrama as only Metro could do it!
