Prime example of the screwiness of the universe

My wife's grandmother, who was more or less her chief female role-model growing up and was effectively her parent for a number of years, passed away today. Her father, yesterday, called her to tell her she had been in hospice care for the past few days and was basically in a medically induced coma. My wife has to leave tomorrow for a twelve-day business trip to Europe. So not only did she get kind of screwed out of getting to see her grandmother one last time, we're hoping her family is willing to hold off on the memorial service (which isn't a big deal since she's being cremated) until my wife comes back to the States.

However, knowing them (I'm a little annoyed right now) I'm not going to hold my breath.

I'm cross-posting here and over on Dreamwidth at The Mad Ramblings. Feel free to comment in either place.
