(I guess I mean that in relation to you, Mikey!)
I got an email today, (finally) from Mike Rizzo, the Utica Landmarks Society President. A while ago I asked him for advice on which grad schools and programs would be best for someone with my inclinations and I thought he was never going to get back to me on it. He replied and said he had many ideas and contacts but it would be far too complicated to get into over email, so we have to meet to talk about it. Which means I have to travel to Utica, so I'm thinking Spring Break, around April 12th. He also said he wants me to intern for the society this summer and will arrange a stipend when I tell him how much time I can devote to it. I said the entire summer if he has enough work for me! New York is just awful in the summer, it's way too hot. Upstate is really the place to be, with all the lakes and things..and my favorite place to be of all, the Mohawk Valley!
I am also continuing my research for Utica Landmarks here in the city. Tomorrow I am going to the New-York Historical Society to ask about volunteering and using their research library. They have the day books of architect AJ Davis, who designed one of the mansions in Utica we are trying to save. There are a million little questions we have and I have to pour over his diaries, letters, etc. Some are at Columbia, and some are at the NY Public Library. I basically have to establish a Utica connection with him, it is too much to go into here, but there is one. His diaries are really old- early to mid 19th C., so I hope to gain access to them with out having to go through a lot of red tape. I think it will be alright. I'm very happy to be doing all of this!
