did my civic duty today. didn't get "hired" to be a juror, but it was neat nonetheless. that and I get $6 in the mail! I'm also curious about the verdict. I'm suprised this type of case doesn't come up all the time or have a sort of protocol or whatever. when one person breaks the law and causes an accident and the other person failed to stop the accident... who's at fault and who has to cover the totaled vehicle's expenses?
but yeah, civic duty. I feel like a person. it's weird. afterall, I call myself "subcitizen." I've labeled myself as such because it's sorta how I view the world. and I know the view I have is all fucked up and needs to be replaced. I don't know, ride the bus, it's humbling. in a good way.
I'm about to throw my cap on, maybe my denim jacket too, and I'm gonna go bike riding around central Austin; part for amusement and fresh air, part for applying at a few places.
a Travis County deputy in late 2002 is at a stop light preparing to turn left. he has a non-arrow green light. either the light turned yellow and then to red or he rushed in front of cars on his green yeild (I'm not sure of this detail). an on coming car hit him. which either means they both ran the red or he failed to yeild and she failed to avoid the accident. who is responsible for the cost of the totaled Trav Co Deputy mobile if they're sorta both at fault? the Deputy had broken the law and either failed to yeild or ran a red (stuck in the intersection on a red). but did the woman break any laws?
interesting case. I can see why it's in court. but whatever.
it was really cool. I felt so important. I felt entitled. I felt like a citizen of the united states and especially of this awesome Travis County. woot.
you know what's neat? I signed up for my duty online, took care of everything via email and what not. the Judge informed us of the fact that this "computer" system has been in place for some 2 or 3 years; and Travis County was the first County in the entire USA to have this high tech convenience. pretty neat. we are all in a special place at a special time, my friends.
*sigh*.... I love Austin.
