I took Fang to the vet today (thank you Greg for your donation) and as I thought he does indeed have adrenal disease. His adrenal glands are about 2.5 times normal size.
The vet has given me 2 choices at this point. The first choice is to treat his symptoms and feed him a high calorie diet and vitamin supplements until he is too weak and in too much pain from the disease, then put him to sleep. The second choice is to take him to a specialist where he will get x-rays, ultrasound, and surgery to remove the tumors. This is the best choice to have him live out the rest of his life and once it is done he should not have any further problems of this nature. The problem for me is that it will cost between $400 and $900. I have no idea if these people do any kind of billing or not, but I know I don't have that kind of money lying around for this kind of thing.
Tomorrow I will start calling the specialists the vet gave me and try to get more information on how to proceed, but unless I can find an extra $1000 somewhere I am not sure how far I can take this. Fang is very special to me, he is the sweetest most well behaved ferret (with the possible exception of Squeeker) and I am not going to let him die without a fight.
