Saturday's Adventures

Work went reasonably well until someone showed up after we had "closed" and wanted to look at some frames. 15 minutes later she was on her way, everything was shut off in the office, and I hurried home to change for my little hike.

We went over to Blue Hills, stopping at the Trailside Museum, with the idea being we'd head up to the Weather Observatory and the Observation Tower. Luckily the walk up was fairly quick and not bad considering we chose the "red dot" trail to the road up to the Tower. The "red dot" trail is a rocky trail up the hills; the "green dot" is a more woodland trail, but the way up was fairly quick, and the road was less slippery. ; )

Unfortunately I'd forgotten my pedometer so I couldn't track my mileage. Probably wasn't much anyway, but still it would have been nice to know. I'm unofficially and casually participating in the Walk to Rivendell challenge (see #39 on my 101 in 1001 list), and my goal date is in April or May. Oh well.

It was such a beautiful day, and I'd love to get back there to explore sometime! I have to admit, once we got started, I would have been happy to keep going a little longer, but I had other plans for later and so did my friend. I'll definitely bring the Bean sometime. She'll find it exciting, I think.

I have now completed #37 on my 101 in 1001 list.

I also worked on #27 on my 101 in 1001 list. Saw Contagion with atomicpagan at Legacy Place. I hadn't been to the Dedham Cinema since the whole area was redone as "Legacy Place." Huge! Clothing stores! Restaurants! Fancy night at the movies! *g* Glad I hit the ATM because the prices of the movie ticket, popcorn and soda were higher than the last time I'd gone to the movies. Geez.

If you're a spoilerphobe, you should stop reading. What follows doesn't have spoilers per se for Contagion, but for some people, a general description of my impressions of a movie might be enough to ruin it for them. If so, consider your self warned. .. Still here? Great .. I enjoyed Contagion. It wasn't as horror-filled as I was expecting (as in zombified people dropping dead as you walk down the street - that kind of horror), but it was still pretty creepy and very interesting because it unfolded in the way you'd imagine a real outbreak of a horribly contagious disease would spread. The "reality" was where the horror was, and I liked that. The way the story was told, using various points of view, worked for me, but it did give, as atomicpagan said, a documentary feel to the film. There was a couple sitting next to us who gave running commentary, and they seemed surprised by things they shouldn't have been suprised about. And they were confused at the end. And the ending was not confusing. I think they were expecting some action/adventure/horror zombies oozing out of the subways or something and were confused when that didn't happen.

We hit The Chateau after for dinner. I was tempted to order lasagna (once upon a time lasagna was my absolute favorite dinner), but we opted to share Nachos .. yum! I haven't had cheesy nachos in awhile either.

All in all good adventures. I'm hoping something will happen for today and tomorrow as well. So nice out, and I need an excuse to avoid the things I should be doing! Quick, someone give me an excuse to be outside. :D
