Well after a lovely long holiday and trying to find my feet in about a thousand e-mails I finally have gotten round to being able to post something.
While on holiday, when waiting for my washing to get done - I had this gigantic creative urge. Similar to a fountain on ideas rising up inside me and wanting to burst out. So instead of letting it burst out all over the show I grabbed my notebook that I had in my bag and started writing and writing. There is nothing more therapeutic...

So here goes I am going to be brave as someone I know said, even they do not like your work you need to keep on trying and teaching yourself how to improve.

This is a post from the first chapter that I drafted for The Guardian. I do not want to give the synopsis for fear of giving it all away but would rather you read the first bit and let me know your thoughts.

The Guardian
Chapter 1

Joshua had been following their generation for years.

Ever watchful for when the “gifted” one would arrive.

The legend, as he had learned that fateful evening waking up (or being born - still not sure after all these years) in the desert.

The Wise One has told him who and what his purpose was. Joshua never doubted the old man, as the he recalled the memory still burned in his mind all these years later, not diminished in sound colour or texture. Joshua knew as soon as the old man saw him that he was forever linked to him.

The Wise One’s name was Josia. When he took Joshua in he explained Joshua’s purpose. Josia was getting old and needed to hand over his legacy. As Josia explained their kind never aged until they choose a path that would cause them to age. In Josia’s case he had found Clarissa his true love and knew he did not want to spend another eternity with any one else.

Josia had continued guarding as per the legend but his time had come to an end.

Joshua sighed, the past still so vivid in his memories. Gazing in the distance my memories continue once more.

With Josia’s end my beginning had started, for how long this road would go on nobody knew.

That evening in the desert with the cool air on my skin and Josia’s calm even tone, I claimed my destiny I claimed my birthright as The Guardian.

The legend of The Guardian was one that had been told many times but few still believed in its existence. My birthright was tattooed on my right shoulder, a tattoo mind you I do not remember having gotten but was there none the less, this is how Josia knew who I was and then trained me in the knowledge of the legend.

He saw me walking up the dune looking lost and but still having a sense of purpose, Josia said this brought him back to his memories of how he came into being but said that staory was for another night, mind you never heard that story as Josia passed soon after that.

“Come sit by the fire, my son”, Josia said. I gathered the cloth that covered me and lowered myself onto the sand and sat by the fire, looking deep into Josia’;s eyes for some sort of explanantion, all I got however was an unending depth and mischievious sparkle promising a revelation soon enough but patience was not my strength as I could feel it building in my muscles driving me to want to scream and say “Out with it!” but I took a deep breathe and prepared for what he was about to unleash on me.

Josia smiled, his face calm and voice steady, his hand started stroking the dog that was by his side, looked like a wolf but I was not sure in this climate but oh well.

“ In a time long before you and I were born there was a village, where the people were very prosperous and very peaceful. Their culture was advanced and it was what you would call the ideal society, no struggles, no poverty, no hunger, only peace, joy and happiness. The villages surrounding them called then the “Gifted ones”.

The name arose from the fact that their leader had the gift of sight. She had the gift to be able to see into the future but was only allowed to use the gift for pure intentions and not for personal gain.

This gift had been passed onf or generations in her family and would always become apparent in a female, never a male, the reason for this is unknown”

Josia shifted in the sand, poked the fire with the stock close by his side and his eyes got the faraway look again and he continued

“ The villagers lived happily for a long time until the other surrounding villages became jealous and tried to kill her several times, this did not bother her and she continued to use her gift for pure intentions. This only angered them further. One night the leader of the closest village Amotaya enraged that he could not harness the gift wanted to hurt her for once and for all and knew that she would not be harmed by a direct attack and  decided to hurt her loved ones instead. Amotaya snuck into the village under cover of dark with a dagger closely tucked into the hilt of his pants, he moved slowly and quietly. He knew her son slept soundly in the room next to her and that she would be busy with the village elders. Her village did not have violence therefore no guards or any protection, Amotaya thought this was her bad luck and should regret this for the rest of her days.

Amotaya entered the room where the boy was sleeping and took the boys life quickly and swiftly. He left the room without a second glance, smiling to himself all the while.

She came in later the night to check on her son and saw he had been murdered. She was struck down with such intense grief, and her body shuddered as she cried, why had she not foreseen this! Why! Then she realized that her gift was for pure purposes only and while she did not have the power to stop evil she could protect her family and future generations but controlling the gift.

She then decreed that the gift would be passed onto future generations to females only and would not be present in ever female as it had been but the gift would choose the next gift giver. She then appointed a Guardian to guard her future generations until the gift re-appeared and then to preserve the person with the gift and their family to ensure that people who were pure of soul would not be hurt again.

The Gift Giver would decide when the earth needed someone with this power again and The Guardian would know when this day would come.”

The Guardian, that was me, Joshua.

It is almost a thousand years later and I am still Guarding, still ever watchful of when the Gift will arrive.

I never made the choice like Josia and decided that I do not want to spend a single eternity with someone.

I sighed, and closed my eyes and rubbed my face, I was getting tired, the evening was taking long.

She, Maria that is was working late. Too late, I think to myself and wish I could will myself to be seen by her and tell her this. In her condition she should be resting and awaiting the new arrival but I know the hand that life has dealt her and it was a cruel hand. Maria is now twenty five years old, six months pregnant and her husband was killed in accident six months earlier.

She cried bitterly but when she knew what gift she was carrying she bravely soldiered on and keeps her head held high for her and the babies sake. She has her family to help her but her mom is frail and cannot help her that much.

“Click”, I see the office plunged into darkness. Finally, I think to myself, Maria needs to rest.

She locks the office, sighs and puts her hand on her stomach and tucks the key into her handbag.

I will guard her again tonight, I think to myself and I will be by her till the little one is born.

Even though Maria cannot see me, she knows I am there as the story ahs been passed down from generation to generation but she does not believe anymore which saddens me greatly.
