Well friends, it has officially been one month since my diagnosis. This morning I had my follow-up appointment at Harkness, and while the doctor wasn't super jazzed that I wasn't still wearing my surgical shoe, he did delare me "clinically healed." The trees behind my apartment have begun to shed their leaves; I can now see straight through to the apartments around the block. The skyline is different. This is how my winter begins, learning what it's like to be laid bare.

After a cathartic talk with Clay on Monday, I press hard on Tony to find volunteers. I learn that when in doubt, throw money at a problem. In this case, my Doris Duke stipend will pay for train tickets for 4 volunteers from Beijing to come up and help us finish our surveys.
