I was just trying to reply to a post in another group, but because I am not a member it won't take my reply.  Fine.  I'll just post it here.

Post:

If I hear that "women submit to your husbands" verse one more time from my parents I will strangle them. I'm not even ENGAGED yet, for crying out loud.

The language of the Bible is different from that of today, and while submit may be interpreted as a negative it wasn't meant to be.

I am not up on my bible, but I did read it cover to cover many eons ago and 'women submit to your husband' very well could have been followed by 'men surrender to your wife' and is meant to convey love one another and no more than that.

Saying 'women submit' in this day and age will earn a man a decapitation.

What we don't know, is the context this girls' parents are saying 'submit' to her. It could be that they want her to give in to this man and let him control her completely without question.

True. Controling without question is unwise, stupid, not a relationship.
