Ask LJ: automated deployment of windows under VMWare?

VMWare is slowly driving me insane. I need to deploy a variety of windows OSes (Windows 7, Windows 8, Server 2008, Server 2012) from templates using scripts. We have hundreds of each to deploy, having any manual steps between initiating deployment and using the VM isn't acceptable.

I was a user of Windows 95, Millennium Edition, and currently I'm using XP.
95, 98, 2000, ME, XP, Vista, 7, 8 which is newest one..

I thought ME was unstable those days. I've been choosing odd number versions empirically since then.
