Kaile woke up on the second ring, reaching for her phone on autopilot and flicking it open halfway through the third ring.

Not dispatch.

Of course not, because she wasn't on call tonight. She blinked at her phone, the rust of adrenaline ebbing away, returning when the caller ID filtered through the haze of sleep.

"Lindsay? Hey!"

Lindsay smiled widely when she heard Kaile's voice. "Hey, pretty girl. How are you? I didn't wake you up, did I?"

"You did, actually," Kaile said, stifling a yawn against the back of her hand. It'd been a long day, and she'd only been in bed for - she glanced at the clock - an hour and fifteen minutes. It'd been a while since she last talked to Lindsay, though, so she wasn't about to tell her to call back later.

"Don't worry about it. Everything okay?"

Damn. Lindsay hadn't expected to catch her asleep. "I'm sorry, Kai. I figured you'd still be up, thought I was the only one working the dayshift," she said, biting her lip.

"Things are okay. Good, yeah. Just, you know, sort of missed you."
