The govt needs to get their act together so that I can file my taxes. I have everything ready in turbo tax and have big plans for the return money. It looks like we will have enough to put in a new septic tank and drain field this year. I might even have some left over to buy a new teakettle. I know you all envy my life.
My sister, I love her to death. She thinks I'm a little off for the way we eat and live. This is only compounded by the fact that she is a type A personality and views herself as my mother (long messed up childhood, where she was practically a parent to me for a number of years). So we had a weird dynamic going on until she had kids of her own and slowly let go of being my parent.
She was also blessed with Hashimoto's, but that is just the tip of the iceberg in her health woes in the past several years. Her health is slowly deteriorating and she is in search of the magic pill that makes it all better. Never mind trying to change the way they eat. Her oldest has been on a prescription medication since 8 or 9 years old that could have been addressed with diet. Not to mention that there is now blood pressure medication despite not even being out of high school.
*erases more ranting*
I just want her to try something different and not suffer, miserably to the bitter end like so many in our family. *heavy sigh*
ehm...Sorry about that, on to homemade stuff.
Last time I wrote about making a liquid castile soap. I finally got a foaming hand soap bottle to try it out in. I don't have the right dilution ratio yet. I think it is like 1 or 2 tablespoons of soap to 1 cup hot water. Once it's diluted down far enough it does fine in the foaming bottle.
I also tried using aloe vera for a shaving gel. It works okay, but does best on straight areas like the lower legs. I didn't think it handles curves so well. I haven't been able to find an aloe without stabilizers, so I'm not completely happy with the solution for shaving. Anybody have other ideas or use something else besides commercial shaving cream?
The last six months or so Pip and I have been skipping the shampoo and washing our hair with conditioner. I want to find an even better alternative to this. My hair doesn't seem to care much what I wash it with. It is coarse and full of ringlet curls that soon after drying turn into a frizzy mess. I'm currently washing it with straight castile soap and taming it with coconut oil while it is still damp.
I did try this shampoo
http://wellnessmama.com/3701/how-to-make-natural-shampoo/ recipe from Wellness Mama and although it worked well, it left my hair feeling more weighed down than castile soap. It would make a nice moisturizing body soap that is just rubbed around if you don't mind sliding around the bathtub.
Pip's hair is a different story. It is fine and straight. I made the big mistake of trying to wash her hair with castile soap and we barely got a brush through it later. So I'm still on the hunt for something better than commercial conditioner for her.
