The girl's birthday party is today--she invited her three best friends over, and two of them are spending the night. In years past, the kids' birthday parties have been preceded by hours (or days) of frantic activity. I spent 15 minutes this morning drying a boy's tennis shoe, size 5, with a hair dryer. The aroma was quite distinctive. I was able to note that the sole is worn through in several places and somebody's big toe has been working its way through the tip of the shoe. The girl turns 12 on Sunday and is a little sad that she didn't get her Hogwarts letter. I think I'll have to concoct a gentle let-down and print it up on fancy paper for her.
