So I've been really looking forward to the new BGM created for the Lagann-hen movie. Well, the official website just put up some short samples of the tracks, and... Maybe I'll like them better when I get to listen to the whole thing, but...

1. "Just stay quiet and get fired up ~ God in Heaven" Just sounds like wailing to me. I hope the rest of ( Read more... )

I really like that third one. Again, I've been into Indian, Middle Eastern, etc music lately.
Why's there a Bollywood film called Lagaan and a song called Ishq Kamina. Viral is a name of Indian descent.
Yeah I'm still looking forward to hearing the full soundtrack, though. Hurry up internet grrr.

I like world music, so it doesn't bother me, I just don't think it really works for the show itself (which is why I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't use it). I really want to hear more of the second half, though. :D

(Well, maybe it would work for Enki Durga.)

Wait there, I'm interested. Could you please tell me when I can learn more about the origin of TTGL names?

Haha, well, it seems to me more like it's a mere coinsidence than anything else.

Lagann of course means face in Japanese, thus leading to the name Gurren Lagann meaning Crimson Face.
I'm not even sure what the word lagaan means, but the name of the Bollywood film is Lagaan: Once upon a time in India.

Kamina means rascal/ scoundrel in Hindustani which is spoken in northern India and Pakistan. This here is the song Ishq Kamina; in it they're going on about how love is a rotten rascal and so on.
In Gurren Lagann terms, I can't remember EXACTLY here now, but the name Kamina derived from a direction of some sort. Like on a compass, you know. The details are kind of fuzzy now, sorry.

Of course the name Viral just goes back to the genetic name pattern that Genome and the Beastmen followed, that's just a given.
Now if you're going by the Sanskrit (Indian) definition, that name means precious or sometimes rare/ unusual but it's more often listed as meaning precious. This makes me laugh harder than it ever should. And like CSS said, there's ( ... )

Nearly all the characters' names are a play on words. Kamina comes from "kami" (above), Simon from "shimo" (below), Yoko from "yoko" (side), Nia from "near," Rossiu from "ushiro" (behind), Viral from "rival," Leeron from "riron" (theory), and etc.
