Overall Thoughts: I'm pretty chuffed. Even though I wrote the same amount of fics as last year, my word count is back up to my average per year, which makes me SO happy.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?: I don' t think I really had a target, aside from beating my measly 35,000word count from 2010. At the same time though, I didn't go out of my way to write more fic and I firmly believe that if it werent for my participation in ireversebang then I probably would have failed even more spectacularly than last year!
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?: Inception ♥; it turned out to be my biggest fandom this year and I'm still not entirely sure I saw it coming XD
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?: [ Caspe-Wri-Mo! ] I didn't get a chance to do it in 2011, so I'm hoping to get it done in January 2012 (but, as I've just got a new job which means I'll need to move my entire life to the other end of the country, it may or may not happen as planned). If I can't get to it in January I'll move it back to November as per usual. Also, I'd love to do ireversebang again, I had such unexpected fun with that one :D
My best story of this year: [ 1-Up | Inception/Super Mario Bros Fusion | Arthur/Eames, Ariadne/Cobb (implied) | PG-13 ]. It's maybe not the best story I've ever written, but as I said, I had such fun writing it! I wish I'd left myself with more time to properly polish everything off (story of my life, eh?) but over all I love the whole concept I came up with. Plus it had the added awesome of being a fusion with Super Mario Bros, a game which I just adore to pieces!
My most popular story of this year: I'm not really sure, they've all had about an average response from readers. There is one that I was quite surprised got even an average number of reviews and that was [ conman of the year| White Collar/Castle; Neal, Peter, Ryan, Esposito, Castle, (Beckett); U-Rated ]
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: haha. I feel like answering this question'll make me sound all high-and-mighty or something, even though there is one piece that I wish had more interest, (but at the same time I know why it doesn't and that it's down to me to correct that) and that is [ can't help falling | Crossover: Inception/(500)days of summer; Verse: (500)days of Eames; Arthur/Eames, Arthur/Summer (past); PG/13; 3012words ]. I think the idea I've got for this 'verse is a good one, but I'm such a lazy writer and really need to get my finger out and write-write-write, which'll hopefully garner an interest in the whole thing. Of course I can't complain too much, I did get some [ gorgeous artwork ] to accompany this story by the wonderful essouffle ♥ for ae_match
Most fun story to write: [ 1-Up | Inception/Super Mario Bros Fusion | Arthur/Eames, Ariadne/Cobb (implied) | PG-13 ]. I'm not gonna lie, although this was the most fun, it was also the hardest story to write. I pulled all-nighters to get this beast done and was writing most of it whilst sleep-deprived and/or high on energy drinks but I still had the best time writing it. It was hard in the sense it was my first proper Inception fic and I had pretty much no-one to talk things over with. I found myself struggling with the characterisations at times and I'm still not sure I fixed everything I wanted to, but in the end I LOVED my idea and the way the characters were turning out and bouncing off each other. I wish I could have done everything I wanted to with the story, (without the pressure of a deadline hanging over me), but in the end I had a good time with it :)
Story with the single sexiest moment: The really depressing thing about this question is that it brings into light the fact that almost all my stories this year have all been ridiculously PG in rating :S There's been a few bordering-R moments [ a kiss with a fist | Supernatural/Leverage | Dean/Eliot, (Alec) ] and [ here comes your man | Inception/(500)days of Summer | Arthur/Summer, Arthur/Eames ] but the closest I've come to writing anything 'sexy' is probably with [ afterwards | The Eagle | Esca/Marcus ] wherein in Esca gives Marcus a non-descriptive blowjob inbetween tattooing him. Oh hey there not-so-secret tattoo kink ;D maybe I'll explore you more properly in 2012!
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: Nothing I can think off. I've been horribly tame this year. Will rectify for next year though ;D
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Again, nothing I can think of.
Hardest story to write: I was going to say nothing again, but I think maybe [ beneath my skin ( which I co-wrote with the wonderful khasael) | Arthur/Eames ]. (See also 'most fun story to write'.) Not so much for the content as writing angst is something of a forte for me, but because I got to a point in the story and then... I just stopped. For some reason I couldn't figure out how to end the story- did I want it to all be a dream? Did I want Eames to be Arthur's abuser? I didn't know. So I did what every other writer does when blocked: I moaned about it ;D And then khasael stepped in and took me up on my request for a co-writer and suddenly everything made sense again and an end was soon in sight :) I'd never have completed this one if not for her!
Biggest Disappointment: I'm not disappointed in any fics I wrote, per se, more in those I didn't write this year. I have so many new fics on my harddrive that I'd meant to churn out this year and just didn't- for whatever reason- get around to them. I hope to change this with the new year!
Biggest Surprise: Ya'll are going to get sick-fed-up of me mentioning this one again, but : [ 1-Up | Inception/Super Mario Bros Fusion | Arthur/Eames, Ariadne/Cobb (implied) | PG-13 ] was my biggest surprise. What was supposed to be a minimum 3000word fic written for a piece of artwork, mutated into a 35,000word beast and would probably have grown more if I'd, you know, learn not to leave everything until the last moment XD
Most Unintentionally Telling Story: Ah, here's the third 'nothing I can think of' ;D
Story I haven't yet written, but intend to: SO MANY FICS ASDFGH. But I guess the one on the top of my list is the one I was going to write for inceptionbang (I can see ya'll surprise that I dropped out of this one ;D), which was the Inception/Blades of Glory fusion with Arthur and Eames as rival figure skaters XD Maybe one day...
Also, I have plans to dip my toes into both the Criminal Minds and Suits fandoms, as well as writing a few book-verse fics (which sadly do not have fandoms D:) this coming year which I'm quite excited about!
In conclusion: WRITE MORE FIC. Also, learn to pace myself better when it comes to writing challenge fics. I seem to have a tendency to word-vomit on pieces I only need to write a small amount of words for so I need to plan my time and my stories better to ensure that I write a piece that I'll be completely proud of when I put it out there.
