Babysitting

So now I'm on the 154 highway (aka Los Padres Nat'l Forest) babysitting the kid I tutor and his brother (15 and 13), in literally the middle of nowhere! It's about 20 minutes into the Santa Barbara mountains and it's terrifying when it's foggy.

They leave the garage door open so that their 2 cats can come in and eat their food. They're wild cats. I saw one yesterday. It was kinda scared of people, but they told me the dad's had them for about 9 years. I'm surprised they've lived that long out here. Good for them.

It's a cabin and I doubt I would live in a place like that. I'm sure I would buy one to visit a few times a year and maybe rent to tourists or something, but I'm a big emergency freak and if something happened and I couldn't get to the city or my home (there's only 1 rode), I don't know what I'd do.

The little brother is known to be a terror, but he's been playing nice with me (his dad told me he'd try to make a nice impression) so I'll take it. He had made me breakfast by the time I got back this morning.

The pancakes had batter oozing out of them haha, but it was a nice gesture. Not sure what his motives were, but I'm not telling his parents the details of how nice he's been. Maybe that's what he wants? Can you tell my guard's up? haha.
....(EDIT)Ten minutes later he told me he'd made plans to meet his friend on State St. at 1pm. I knew it! I said ok cus they were inside all day yesterday and I didn't want them to just stay here all weekend. Besides, I could give the older brother some time away from the little guy. That was my good deed of the day.

The kid I tutor sleeps here (on the right)

It's a loft where he decided to sleep for some privacy and to get away from his tormenting little brother and the step-mom (who always sides against him). It's rather sad, but he is kind of a loner and he likes it for the most part.

I've been here since yesterday and it's been ok, except for the fog today. I've had to go down the hill 3 times today. Thankfully the kids helped guide me along the way. We rented Inglorious Basterds and the new Nightmare on Elm St. (one for each kid) so we'll see how that goes. Off to make some food for them.
