Exactly. Things are still... chaotic. It's likely some form of side-effect from the ongoing situation that causes us to recall these different realities.

As this is Luceti... I doubt it's a permanent situation. It's the result of a shift, whether or not it's an experiment is up to question. I doubt we would have an actual experiment with the situation being as it is.
