Kindof an odd request

Okay so the thing is this…

We’re broke. Very, very broke. I have a job, but it’s very very very very VERY tight around our household, and we’re barely covering bills.

But we’re covering them so I’m not begging for help with that.

I am begging for help with something, though.

The thing is this… Chris has this REALLY amazing job that he’s trying to get. It’s basically EXACTLY what he was hoping to get into when he got done with school.  And he has a REALLY great opportunity to get a leg-up to get the position.

The problem is, it entails traveling to Chicago for a weekend.

We’ve essentially decided that we are going to send him up on Thursday, definitely. The problem is that even just to send him up on Thursday, considering the height of gas prices and assuming a fairly modest food budget, it will probably run us around $150, give or take. And we don’t really have that. The problem is, we can’t really afford NOT to do it.

So I’m asking for help. If there’s any way you could spare some change, I’d be willing to do a number of things in response. Since this isn’t really the sort of thing I think that Kickstarter is for, I’m not willing to use that. But I’d like to use this blog post as a sort of mini kickstarter. So here you go.

That’s my donate button. I’m letting Chris borrow it. With it you will be able to click the button, put in your email address, and make a donation. You *should* be able to put a memo on your donation requesting your incentive. A basic list of what I can offer is as follows:

for $10 or more: a download of every music track I have on my bandcamp page for free.

for $30 or more: a free knit hat in a style of your choice

for $40 or more: a free knit hat in a style of your choice AND a free download of every track I have available online.

for $50 or more: a hat, all my musics, and a scarf - either to match the hat or something special (I can do an interlac patter, a hidden alien pattern, a tardis pattern, etc. We can get creative, you and I.
)

If for some reason you feel ridiculously generous and want to donate $150 or over, I will either a) write you a song (it can be about anything you want, involve your name, your kids’ names, etc., or you can let me make up something entirely unique for you) or b) knit you a full-size afghan (incorporating up to three colors with any symbols on it that you’d like including letters, shapes, etc. Again, we can get creative together or you can let me invent something just for you.)

A few donations in those brackets would get him up there on Thursday only to spend the day getting to know some of the people who will be looking at his resume. As I’m sure you can imagine, the longer he can stay up there and help them out at the event they’re working at, the more chance they have to get to know him and the more chance he potentially has to get the job. The longer he stays up there, though, the higher the cost goes for us. For example, if he stayed Thursday and Friday (which would mean getting a hotel room), we could probably cover that with about $290. If he stayed Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (only sleeping up there Thursday and Friday nights), it’d be about $430. And if he stayed on Friday night as well to help with tear down of the event, that would run about $550 to $570, give or take (he might be able to spend less on food not being at the hotel that night again.)

So if we can just raise enough for the one day that would be fine. But if we could raise enough for him to stay a couple of days or even the whole weekend to really get to know the guys who will be there and show them what he has to offer, that would be AWESOME. And he *could* potentially get lucky just going up on the Thursday and someone might be able to offer him some crash space, but then he’d still probably have to cover food.

So if there’s any way at all that you can help, even just a few dollars, it would really REALLY be awesome. We’ve got about a week to do this as between paypal and the bank it takes several days to transfer funds over, so if you can help, the sooner the better!

And thank you so much for putting up with me panhandling a little.

Much love,
Crystal
