“What’s this?” Yuma asked with not much interest, but fearing Kotori’s entire body language; she seemed extremely irritated.

“It’s a death certificate. I got this one with Kaito’s help.” She hastily pointed to a stamp on the paper, signaling that it was real and official.

“Hmm...” Yuma hummed, still not that curious about the matter, but eyeing the piece of paper lying on his desk.

It was 8am on a Sunday and Kotori had come to his house only for… This.

“Yuuma! Can you at least try?” She suddenly snapped, surprising her friend, who jumped on the chair. She clicked her nail on a specific line, drawing Yuma’s attention to it. “Here, read it!”

He gulped nervously before blinking away some of the sleepiness away, knowing full well that Kotori would be even more mad if he didn’t act seriously.

“Uh...” He furrowed his brows and read the line again.

“See?” She asked in a hurry. “I told you, Yuma, he is dead!”

Indeed, the document was saying that Astral Celestium was dead.

Dead by a car crash approximately two years and three months before.

“--Maybe it’s a mistake?” He offered weakly, watching Kotori sigh exasperatedly, even needing to hide her face with a hand for a couple of seconds.

“Yuma, I told you I got it with Kaito! And he works with the notary!” She ran fingers through her hair, tired and mad. “Why do you keep protecting this guy? He clearly isn’t normal!”

“Hey now, I know he’s kind of weird sometimes--”

“--Sometimes?” She interrupted him. “Yuma, he kidnapped you!” She reminded him, that being the most pressing matter. “And his skin is a bit blue, I once saw one of his eyes fall off the socket! He also never eats or drinks and you know how weird he is when walking!”

“...” He took some seconds to think. “--That wasn’t really kidnapping! ...For the first minutes, maybe, but then...” With her angry face, he stopped. “A-About his skin… Maybe it’s makeup? And he walks weird because his feet are injured or something? And I think he has a glass eye--”

“Yuma, stop it! Just accept that this guy isn’t normal!”

“I know he isn’t! But I just...” He looked to another direction, pink dusting his cheeks. “I like him… And he likes me for what I am, too.”

Kotori closed her eyes and tried to calm down a bit.

“Listen...” She started, deciding to be less logical. “Astral does treat you well, I can see he’s a good boyfriend, but Yuma… If this information here is true...” She looked at the death certificate. “You might be in danger.”

He held the paper and read it again, letting his worries slip back into his mind, the ones he had suppressed ever since meeting Astral.

“--Were you thinking about some kind of curse?” He quietly asked, Kotori relieved that he was finally accepting the possibility that he was dating an undead.

“Maybe? Or maybe it’s something different, like a weird virus… Either way, Yuma, promise me to be careful around Astral. You never know.”

He didn’t want to believe that Astral, dead or alive, would be able to hurt him in any way, but zombies, according to the shows, didn’t hold much power on their own desires, their instincts ruling, especially the hunger.

“--All right… I promise.”
