Wheeeee!!!
I just went to the new rock climbing centre at 1 Utama today and it looks awesome!!! Granted, it was bloody hard to find (spent 2 hours wandering around before we managed to find it).. ended up going thru the carpark, then going thru the arcade to get there! But the staff are really really friendly; they've got this awesome contraption which doesn't require a belayer to do top-roping (some spring mechanism device that lowers you slowly if you fall off the wall - but it also means that if I'm not confident enough to do bouldering and want to do some ropework, I don't need a partner! Downside: if I fall off the wall, I'll be lowered back to the ground and will have to start again!). I'm looking into new gear; they've just opened beginning of the month so they've got this promotion starter pack for harness and belay plate (which i was thinking of getting anyway).. yay!!! Very very very pleased... :) And their belay plate is the newer, better than one that I've been using. Gear here is cheaper than UK.. especially since it's Black Diamond which is a pretty reputable brand in rock-climbing.
Unfortunately, there's no traversing wall.. but they've got bouldering stuff that are actually boulder shaped. A lump of rock in the middle of the room with some crash mats below.
Damnit.. I really should have brought my rock-climbing shoes and chalk bag back. I really didn't think that my parents would receive the idea so well! My mum seemed ok with it, although she was getting pretty fed up while we were wandering around for 2 hours looking for the place (so hard to find!). She saw some people climbing today.. we had a look around the climbing gym with one of the staff. I think I managed to convince her that it's pretty safe with all safety equipment we use! (of course, I didn't mention anything about equipment failing!)
I'm definitely going to try to get a climb in after xmas, before I return to UK. Entry fee is for the whole day, which means that can climb in the morning, take a break, go out to the adjoining mall for lunch and come back and do more climbing! How cool is that!!!! :)
