Winter Skills Dilemma

Dec 07, 2005 00:14

Hmm.. in a bit of a quandary. I want to learn how to ice-climbing, but I'm not sure whether I'm ready for it or not. I think I'm not really ready for it since it's physically very very demanding and I'm not used to such weather conditions (plus I don't really like the cold). However, I've got an opportunity that's too good to pass up. A winter skills course in Scotland end-January/beginning Feb 2006. The price is pretty reasonable - however, I don't have ANY specialist equipment. (the most important thing being boots that can take crampons - should be able to rent most of the other stuff. But those boots are pretty darn expensive and I don't know if I can afford it, neither do I have the time to break them in since I won't be around here for the next month or so.) Furthermore, it's going to be a rather hectic schedule if I go for it, since I'll be out of London every weekend that month since returning to London. But.... I really really want to learn ice-climbing.... And I doubt I'll get such a good opportunity again.
