Oyness . . . Yeah, that's right - I just turned a Jewish exclamation into a noun.

I thought becoming an art history tutor would be good - not just for the money, but also for slowly immersing myself into more social situations. Well, now it seems to be backfiring. My art history professor said that some students have been bragging to other students about how much I've helped them. She ended our meeting with a phrase that struck an unspeakable terror in my heart - "Prepare to be flocked to." All of a sudden I've got zillions of phone numbers of students to call and tutor, and it's so much I'll have to start doing group sessions. As I've confessed several times before, one-on-one social situations aren't terribly horrific for me, but trouble starts the moment the numbers increase. I've already done one semi-group session. and I must say I'm glad I handled it reasonably well, but I know I tutor and get my ideas across more clearly when I'm tutoring only one person. And to top it all off, now I'm starting to get nightmares about art history. I dream I'm back in art history survey I except the lecture hall is now about the size of a quarter of a sporting arena. In the back, slide projectors reaching a number in the thousands are displaying slides of artwork from every art history class I've taken onto this monumental white projection wall. Meanwhile, all of the students that I've tutored thus far are asking the professor really stupid questions which increasingly makes her angry. Oyness.

As for an update about my friend moving away, she says she's feeling much better than she was since I last saw her. Consequently, I am also feeling much better about the whole situation, though I'm still not exactly thrilled about it. Of course, I don't think she's feeling too groovy right now since she missed classes today thanks to a tire blow-out on her way back here from Houston this weekend. When I do see her again, I'd like to suggest that she take that as a sign not to move away. Then again, she could argue that since it happened on her way back here, it's a sign to stay the hell out of this place. Oyness.
