Dante's Inferno text adapted by Marcus Sanders and Doug Harvey
Revoke my nerd license now, because I've never read the original Inferno. That being said, I cannot positively or negatively compare the Sanders/Harvey adaptation to Dante's vision. Judging from what I do know, the content is relatively unchanged although (probably) a sight less lyrical in modern English with occasional contemporary references.
I thought this version was enjoyable, at times ranging between grotesque and humorous. The book is overlarge and has a nice heft, but what really makes the adaptation are the illustrations by Sandow Birk. Detailed line drawings of a post apocalyptic urban wasteland:
