The R Point.

The point in which cells enter the S phase, and the cell cycle begins again.
His father had jokingly called it the 'Point of No Return' when he was teaching Kabuto the science of the human body.
He remembers sitting in on endless lectures, seeing detailed slides of every aspect; then returning home to his father and his mother discussing medical cases over the dinner table, sometimes with fellow medic-nin.

Then his memory becomes fuzzy, missing completely in some areas, as if he were constantly drunk on too much sake.

His first clear memory from the age of thirteen to the age of eighteen is of a dark room, underground.
Orochimaru stood in front of him, hands pressed in a seal.
Behind him was the gruesome evidence of kinjutsu.

Kabuto blinked once, twice; sharp eyes evaluating the traitorous sannin.

Orochimaru informed him that Sasori's jutsu had been released and he now had two options: join or die.

The choice was obvious.

----

Ten years later, Kabuto stands on a battlefield.
He can feel his cells repairing themselves; chakra forcing the dying cells past the R point. Saving him from death, but nothing else.
