Progress notes 31-03-12

It's been three days since our last training session due to personal stuff with me.

But despite how tired I am this morning I put them out and let them run a bit before working with Shila who sat and looked at me every time (though she did protest a couple of times). Ri was perfect every time, too, no protests (although he does this cute little sit/dance every so often when he gets impatient).

Gave them the wait, walked away, then called them.

Both came right away.

In celebration Ri was, typically, playing with Shi, roughousing and being a general pain to her butt. But during that time I called him three times while he was chasing her; two of those three times he turned around on the first call and came to me. So we're sitting at a pretty good thing going I think for recall for him though he'll need more work when he's distracted by stuff.

Shila didn't want to leave my side and wouldn't have if he hadn't been bothering her so much. Would she take off if I let her off lead and let her run, I don't know and I'm not willing to risk it, either. At least, definitely not yet.

I also think that the issue of Shila's leash was not due to her chewing the leash. I think it was Ri playing with her and having hold of the leash and his teeth just gradually sawed the fibers through enough that she broke it herself. However it really happened, she came back, so she's a good girl for that.

Emailed one of the people on the committee for the run, asked if it was okay for dogs to go on it. Depending on the reply I get back (and the weather that day) I may do the 5K, or I may just try for the 11K (1/4 of a Marathon... o_o). But, we'll see.

First, at some point this weekend I want to see if the dogs will be good for a 4K walk, and how I'll be after a 4K walk. If we can handle that, then I'll look at jumping it to 5K and then six and so on.

New month starts tomorrow. Serious training starting then, too for this, and beyond it (for as long as I can and it's not hot, anyway). And then... relax the summer before fall starts. Hopefully I can have *something* for the dogs to pull by then, whether it's a scooter or a bike and we'll see from there.

Still planning to go to the GSSCC - on Crick's advice - Thursday and Saturday, or maybe just Saturday. I'll need to put in the vacation time for it soon though so I need to decide. I'd like to do both but with the price of gas and all, I'm not sure I want to go down and back and down and back, especially if I leave the dogs. PITA though it'd be different I think if I had a GSD.

In any case... things still going well, thankfully, with the dogs at least. :)
