hello/goodbye

Jul 15, 2008 09:30

There is a hello at the other end of each goodbye, and a goodbye follows each hello. At this point, I am no arrow, but an unassuming ferry whose ends are interchangeable to bypass turning when its destination becomes the next journey's origin.

I'll fly to Boston this afternoon; right now I'm packing away the remainder of #34 KGS. I'll miss my vegetal carpet, my 'magic box' which barters one-pound coins for heat, my high windows, and the view across the garden square. It's been a long time since the plane trees became leafy and obscured that Union Jack over the roof-tops. I'll miss my landlord and -lady, too; yesterday, the gruff yet kind landlord said I'd been an 'absolute pleasure' as a tenant, yet I owe all to them. When did this become home?

Enough nostalgia! I've had a great time with my dad the past couple days, and I'm grateful for his company and help with moving. Yesterday we met Antonio, the world's nicest cab driver, who drove between Bayswater and King's X and gave us life lessons en route. He said twenty-six years ago a woman lured him from Portugal to London. His delight in each has since become twenty-six times larger.

I'm grateful, too, for S's generosity and friendship. I'm thinking of E's dad proclaiming (in an English accent) 'spread the love'!

You say good-bye, and I say hello...(music).
