Elisabeth is sick. It started two nights ago with fever and chills, rapidly developing sore throat. Malaise and fever and chills, sore throat through yesterday. Patrick had this along with flu like symptoms right before/uing and immediately after Anna's birthday, I had it- without the flu like achiness and headache- a day or two after Dorie arrived last week. So I think it is the same thing. This morning, Elisabeth has no sore throat, no fever detectable without a thermometer- but an itchy rash that started on her back and when she showed it to me had spread to her groin, rapidly spread up her torso and down her arms, and is starting to appear on her face. ACK! Haven't we all been sick enough!!! She just took a baking soda bath and now I get to make her more tea and ge her to take some vitamins. Her tongue is white on the back but red up front. My tentative diagnosis is scarlet fever, but from pictures it could also be measles or rubella? But it did not start on her face, she doesn't have a fever now. I'm pretty sure it's not chicken pox, the spots are kind of running together right now- but if it is we should know with in another few hours as it should start to form the pustules by then. Whatever it is from the four options above, best treatment according to
Dr. Mendelsohn is rest and nutrition.
I've been treating my nipples with the ACV solution and coconut oil carrying tea tree and lavender oils (the oil is only right after a feeding so Anna isn't getting the TTO internally, not to worry)but they are still flaking, though not as itchy and the itchy rash that was forming on my right boob is almost gone. But my left nipple is cracked a bit underneath- not so much that it bleedsm just enough that nursing on that side is excruciating for the first two minutes until the nerves time out over there. Anna's tongue is a bit white but doesn't bleed when I scrape it- it's not bothering her, and fortunately she doesn't seem to mind the taste of the vinegar at all. Anna's yeasty rash in her creases and around her anus has cleared up nicely with repeated applications of the coconut oil/tto/lavende3r mixture. EC with her is going well and she is rarely wet for more than a minute, except at night. Peter and I both have sore cracked scabby spots at the corners of our mouths that are refusing to heal up, I think they are yeast related. I am afraid we may have to go to Gentian violet. I've never used it before and I don't look forward to a week of walking around with a purple stained mouth, but I'll try almost anything to clear up this stuff at this point! Well anything non-toxic and OTC. No statins.
Oh yes, Abinadi's UTI. Culture results from spina bifida urology clinic- where PAtrick sat with him for 3.5 hours before seeing a doctor who ordered a urine culture- show the same bacteria, proteus mirabilis, in a concentration greater than 5000 parts per? not sure what the measurement is. The previous culture we had done at the ped' showed greater than 100,000 parts per? so if they use the same measurement that is a great improvement. Visually it's so much better, not cloudy at all. But we've got to knock out the rst of these bacteria. Clinic prescribed a week of amoxicillin, which we picked up and put in the fridge. Follow up isn't till the 28th though. I'm going to delay giving it to him at least a week, to try and get this yeast cleared up. He is still nursing and all we need is to get him going with the thrush too!! I'd like to put him back on the uva ursi and do some work on accupressure points and see if we can clear it the rest of the way WITHOUT abx, but I'm not sure if we can afford a follow up culture out of pocket, or where to get one, and if we show up at clinic not having given him the abx and with urine that isn't clear, we could have major problems. SOooo, I've got to make a decision on that within a week of clinic. I met a pathologist at the sweat I went to last spring/summer, who might be able to cut me a deal on a urine culture, I should email him. And there is a ND's office in Germantown where we went a few years ago for some follow-up to the cranial-sacral therapy we did, they might be able to order a urine culture. Just not sure about the cost.
ANYHOO, surely we've all got to get better soon. Right?
Patrick had a job interview today, I'm so hoping it will be good news. We need income!! And I'm hoping my stagehand job will get back to me with my 1099 for last year soon, so we can file. Well I need to go take care of sick people and get Abinadi dressed to go outside and play in the snow before it completely melts off.
